Episode 3 - One script to rule them all...

Week 3 - 20.9.10

This week i have been focused on my script and trying to re-write sections of the three films. This is proving much more difficult than i first perceived. I have included my progress at the bottom of this blog.

I have been thinking about my individual project this week and how it will aid my overall goal of becoming a music teacher. For a start, writing the entire script and composing all of the songs shows a great level of dedication and commitment. It also shows my ability to communicate thoughts and actions through words which is very useful in the feedback of students as a teacher. The massive level of organisation that is involved in such a operation will give me new techniques in organisation and perfect the ones i already possess. Organisation is key in teaching and obtaining such a skill is paramount to my success. Communicating with the actors and musicians to achieve my desired effect is an important skill. This related to a music teacher well as i will have to communicate on a daily basis with my students to teach them what they don't know and to give them feedback on what they do know.

In light of this, i will be relating this blog to the ideals of teaching and how i can get the most out of this individual project and advance as my music teacher.

This is my script so far;

Act I - tHE FELLOWSHIP OF THE BLING

Scene 1 - The Shire

GALADRIEL

The world of music is changed. I feel it in the water, i feel it in the earth, i smell it in the air...much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.

Band plays intro tune.

GALADRIEL

It began with the forging of the Great Rings.

Three were given to the Western Art composers, immortal, wisest...fairest of all beings.

Seven to the Traditional composers, (something)

And nine...nine rings were gifted to the genre of popular music who, above all else, desire power.

For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race.

But they were all of them deceived...for another ring was made.

In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged, in secret, a master ring to control all others.

...and into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his love of hip hop music.

One genre to rule them all...

Episode 2 - The Research

Week 2 - 13.9.10

This week i watched all three extended editions of the Lord of the Rings, to further my knowledge of the films. As i watched each one, i took notes of what i could include in my own project. While taking my notes, i came to the conclusion that there is far too much story to cover in an hour and a half, so i have decided to tell the story through a selected scene by scene narrative. I will take about 5 or 6 scenes from each film rather than trying to tell the entire story. Then i will find someone who can play the part of an old frodo, filling in the gaps.

I have cast 2 people this week for my Lord of the Bling's musical, Daryll as Sam and Dan as Saruman.

Episode I - Lord of the Blings

Week 1 - 6.9.10

Although this is our first day in the BA3 course, i have known for a couple of months prior to this what my individual project will be. I have decided to create a musical based on the Lord of the Rings to the tune of Hip Hop. This is a big task to take on and their is a lot of work needed to be done but i am very confident that i can pull this off. I have a rough script written already and a few of the cast chosen for the acting roles. This week, my goal was to secure a band that will play live on the night. I tried to get the most reliable and the most capable musicans from my year that i know i can work with. This led to recruiting John Cargill on guitar, JP Parsons on bass and John Greensmith on drums. I am happy with my band and i hope to get them some sheet music for the tracks very soon. As i am aware from my last year at college, setting targets and planning ahead is key to a successful project. So i will be setting targets throughout my BA3 and recording them in this log.
